Each hop harvest, the big city brewers from Cloudburst Brewing make the trek from downtown Seattle over the Cascades to team up with the farm brewers from Bale Breaker to brew Citra® Slicker Wet Hop IPA, a fresh hop beer that was first brewed in 2014 with then-owner of Elysian Brewing, Dick Cantwell. While it takes the Cloudburst team over two hours to get to Bale Breaker, the hundreds of pounds of wet Citra® hops picked fresh from the fields travel just four minutes from farm to kettle. Heavily dry-hopped, while light in color and body, this beer is all about these fresh, farm-grown hops!

The people asked for more cowbell, so we turned the hop dial up higher and higher until they screamed UNCLE! Ya Basta! Enough already with the hops! This hazy IPA made with new hybrid Capri yeast combines the best of Loki kviek and Juice strains to let the tropical and citrus flavors shine. We don’t believe that it’s possible to fit more hops into an IPA, although we’ve dared our brewing team to try.

Gather round, youngsters, and we’ll tell you of a time before refrigeration, before glycol-cooled tanks kept yeast from producing estery off-flavors, before walk-in coolers and plug-in kegerators, when lager beers had to be made during the fall and winter. During those days in Munich, crafty brewers made a strong Vienna lager called Märzen, designed to be drunk over the summer months until the weather got cool and we could brew again. October was the time to party, after the harvest was done, and drink the rest of the March (Märzen) beer and celebrate the arrival of fresh batches of lager.
