The town's nickname became "Bulltown" and a perfect name for a beer. We like to think of this brown ale as our prize bull, a brilliant brown in color and flavors of dark chocolate and caramel malt.

Kalona Brewing Co. - Junior Barrel Aged Stout

We took our Junior Stout and barrel aged it in barrels from our friends at Mississippi River Distilling Company in LeClaire, IA. The barrel aging mellows out the stout and adds vanilla, oak and whiskey flavors. This beer has a lower ABV then You Be You, so we named it Junior. Don't let the name fool you there is nothinh amateur about this fantastic dark brew from Kalona, Iowa.

Many of the local residents in Kalona and the surrounding area enjoy lighter beer as their preferred beer of choice. Kalona Brewing Co. decided to bring its own unique take on the style by blending malted barley, water, Hallertauer Tradition hops, and lager yeast to craft Kalona Classic Lager; a beer that is refreshing, light in body and finishes with a toasty note.
